Find Your Fit

The lifestyle of a college student is fast paced, filled with studying, partying, and focusing on everything but health sometimes. When they think of fitness, college students often think of it as daunting, but there are a number of simple ways that can make it exciting and attainable if your goals are made priorities, rather than hassles.

1. Make a Plan

Establish a set of realistic goals that you can work towards, but remember that goals aren’t achieved overnight. . Start a regime to remain focused and optimistic. This is going to make your life better in the long run.

2. Start Strong

Breakfast really is the most important meal of the day. Morning is the prime time to fuel your body with the nutrients it needs to maintain high energy throughout the day. Breakfast isn’t an option if you’re serious about health and wellness. If you don’t have time in the morning, prepare something the night before. For example, oatmeal is rich in vitamins, and other nutrient, and it is filled with slow digesting carbohydrates for extended energy. Add some fruits with a protein shake, great for on the go.

3. Stay Hydrated

Water helps fill you up and curbs your appetite. It also boosts energy, flushes out toxins, boosts metabolism and clears skin. Carry it with you at all times, drinking eight glasses or four Polar Springs bottles a day.

4. Maintain a Routine

You’re a full time student, have a part time job, play a sport or partake in extra curricular activities, so its not always easy to go to the gym on a regular basis. Exercise releases cortisal, the natural stress hormone, and dopamine, an endorphin that makes you feel happy. The excuses for not having time to workout are just that, excuses. Rearrange your schedule, sacrificing time to achieve your goals.

5. Don’t Forget about Nutrition

Incorporate proper nutrition in addition to the time you spend in the gym. We are creatures of habit, so start making healthier choices. Remember, every bite is a step closer to or farther away from your goals.

6. Remember to Stretch

Take care of your existing body so you can obtain the body you want. Loosen up your muscles and get the body warm, a light run helps the blood flow and get your muscle fibers ready to take on your workout.

7. Add Some Variety

Everyone has a plan in the gym, so focus on yours. If it helps, workout with a friend, you’re more likely to stick to your routine if you have a friend to hold you accountable. With summer approaching, go outside, enjoy the outdoors, taking your workout beyond the gym. Change things up to keep your body guessing to avoid thresholds and plateaus. Have fun and test your boundaries.

8. Find your Balance

Remember to reward yourself as you reach your goals. Have the foods you love in moderation. Working out is a way to help you enjoy the life you lead, not alter it completely.

As you begin your fitness plans, don’t forget that health is a lifestyle choice and a way of life.

Hey You, Stop Eating, Please!

Yes, Overeating is unhealthy, a leading cause to our current national issue of obesity ( good thing Michelle Obama is working her campaign), but that is not what I am referring to, I am discussing the ever-growing problem with Gen Y taking on far too many tasks. I know despite the recent Hollywood trend of superhero movies, we (Gen Y) are not equipped with superhuman powers, though some have mutant like tendencies.

So many of us now brand ourselves as prime multi takers and I have no objection to that, I to work well with structure and additional activities to accompany my role as a full time student. Though, as much of an advocate as I am for students to test there limits with co curricular activities, I am noticing more and more that students seem to be overloading there plates with countless amounts of activities and commitments that are impossible to perform at there optimal performance. I use the corny, yet applicable thought, that students load their plates like they are at a buffet. There is so much food that looks enticing and offers so many avenues to of selection, but once you sit down, you often times realize that you have taken far more food than you could possibly consume.

Now, I am optimist, yet with that a realist. I am here to relay the obvious, yet often overlooked; time is not on our side. There is far too much to do, in far too little time. The more the workload, increases more times of stress than positive returns. I encouraged other students that fall into the realm of “ over consumption” to take a piece of mind that I found first hand to accept that were are human and we can not do it all. With that being said, I do take on numerous tasks, but only promises that I now I can deliver with the utmost respect and dedication. It speaks volumes when a student can accept a role and promise that they will dedicate their entire focus and loyalty to a project. It goes back to the phrase used for years far before Gen Y existed,” Quality over Quantity”. I have several projects that I take on and work along with a student, yet the difference is I have the ability to decline projects I know that I cannot make a vital impact and apply myself like I know I can and should. I have a pet peeve, when I am working with a team on a project that I find passionate about I apply my all and become engrossed in the project, so I expect my team to work just as hard. So, it makes no sense for me to speak one claim and then take on a project that I cannot dedicate my all too.

With this all being sad, there are a select group of students that can take on any project and deliver there all or perform above the expectancy that is asked of them. If you are one of those folks, then more power to you, I admire you. Remember this though, if you take nothing else away from this post, a challenge is exciting and I invite the opportunity to learn and reach levels I never have experienced, yet the lack of time should be remembered, if you sacrifice your well being, then you haven’t won at all, you’ve lost.

Lastly, as I become a senior this fall, I can tell you this, enjoy it have fun and never forget you’re a college student, enjoy your time because you will be working for the rest of your life after graduation.

As Always, Take Care.

The Greatest Trip is the one I’ve yet to Take

As of next fall, I will officially be a senior in school. That is three years of the most amazing time of my life in the books (pun intended, read on).

My experiences thus far at school have been some of the most rewarding and memorable of my life, but I am here today to just take moment to reflect on one aspect that I have yet to experience thus far. As of now in my time as an undergraduate student, I have yet to claim the experience of checking out a book.

I’m not saying that my school, Suffolk University isn’t challenging, it’s the exact opposite I have am challenged academically, put in situations that allow me to grow everyday. I value a quality education that I am receiving and don’t take one day for granted. My institution is ranked in some of the most premier collegiate lists for its uncanny ability for producing graduates that make an immediate impact in the professional world and are well-regarded and distinguished alumni. But for all the time I have spent reading, researching and writing, I have done so without every having to check out a book from my library. When it comes to finding sources for research, I am able to find everything I need online, of course I must be cautious about my citing, but the current online databases with journals, editorials and references is amazing to have at current student’s fingertips. The numerous Internet platforms, offer an array of valuable and well-respected sources. Which makes it great to be a collegiate student in the Millennial Generation, cuts the time of past generations who had to dig through a pile of books to find the right resource.

I tell families and students on the university tours I conduct the truth, Suffolk University, like many other academic institutions have an amazing online database, free for student’s access with extremely well received scholarly pieces. The major push at my institution has already began its emergence; many professors are making there texts available online, for free. I think the traditional form of a student being dependant on textbooks will in time be a concept of the past, with heavy current emphasis on reading devices like the Kindle, Nook and IPad, it is no surprise that the traditional form of research for a college student has become an alternative, with the luxury of online research. Just another perk of living in the vibrant time, known as Gen Y.

Rumor has it, I'm in the Clear.

Hello All,

As colleges and universities across the country wrap up their academic years, many students will soon take to the air, maybe to take a vacation, or go back home. So with that, air travel inspires this post.

In a joyous return, Clear is Back. Under new ownership, the Clear Pass Security program is making its storied return to airports, but don't call it a comeback -or actually you can, since thats exactly what it is. Alclear placed a bid to buyout the bankruptcy stricken program Verified Identity Pass, acquiring all assets to generate new vision and re launch the program that offered travelers a favorable security option. The program is based of the premise that it will allow the traveler to experience expedited service at security checkpoints. The Clear program is a must have in my opinion for frequent travelers. I am happy, since my family invested in this program during its original inception. It was sad to see the original run be short lived, but with the declaration of its return, Clear is honoring existing members terms of membership. Branding the newly renovated program as a "customer centric company", Clear Pass will be a program centered around the customer.

The first Clear program reopens this fall, with pricing set at $179 per year for unlimited individual use or $229 per year for unlimited family use. In my opinion if you have the financial means to purchase a membership, its perfect for those who love speedy security lines, aka, for people with little patience for long lines, like myself.

Take care.

The Big iTrip

Hello Wednesday,

"Seeing the web, email, and photos like never before."

Today, I ventured down Newbury Street, with my friend, Luke, to go to the Apple Store to check out the heavily discussed IPad. The exciting platform, compliments of Apple a look.. At first glance I immediately became intrigued by its sophisticated presence. To me, the Apple Ipad goes beyond than solely being branded as a product. Its functions allow it to be deemed and perceived as bold statement, revolutionary idea and creative genius. I would heralded it as the prime push for consumer electronic progression and will forever redefine the way consumers view the class distinction of computing electronics, trailing a path that show emergence of the personal computing market segment.

I am a fan of the Industrial design, sleek display, user friendly software, with its engaging and enlightening operating system and user interface. Also, without a doubt the its range of capabilities, the progression of Apple's applications project with only bode well for the maturity, future of the IPad. Of course the Calendar/Contacts feature would be a huge asset to me as a student deemed " on the go". Of course of all, going hand in hand with my life as a student, the IBook format seems very intriguing.

I am just a little weary of its durability and convenience, it was after all almost named the "ITablet" before its product launch, for good reason, it is a bit to clunky in my opinion and I still cannot shake the image of it just being an enlarged version of the ever popular IPod Touch. I would, love to see a camera instillation within the IPad for convenience and picture capability and video conferencing.

I will probably wait off on the base price of $499 for a 16GB version, as of May 5, 2010.

One thing I can say in confidence, is Apple was surely right when they paired the Ipad with the statement, " A magical, revolutionary product at a unbelievable price". I am curious to how others feel about the IPad, feel free to leave a comment letting me know how you feel.

Take Care.

Hello All,

Many of you are already familiar with the IPhone and its amazing capabilities. Being heralded as the first internet enabled smart phone by Apple. I think that much like the IPhone, our lives are an exciting platform filled with numerous applications that allow us to experience life at our full potential. I embrace the fact that I live in a DIgital Age, it is such a luxury to be a student, learning about social and academic life in such a progressive time period. I have an ever growing love and eagerness to learn more about the social media landscape, since I am an enthusiast.

I have decided to share through images, since we are defined as a visual entity, logos that I use and resemble my life through applications.

Hope you enjoy
